The Curriculum
Parent Information Session
Prior to enrolling students Rising Sun Karate Club will host an introductory session at your school where parents can come and meet Mr. Kingsley, watch a demonstration and ask any questions related to the program their child will be enrolled in. After the initial information session, parents can schedule time with Mr. Kingsley individually to discuss the class and benefits
Lamb Chops
This is a program for 2 & 3 Year olds to learn the basics of karate through fun exercises and principals of the sport. They will learn life skills including patience, focus, kindness, honesty and respect. This program also focuses on motor skill development using balancing, running, blocks and punches and kicks. Children will also learn counting skills, listening skills, focus and self-confidence. This is a complete non-contact learning environment enhancing socialization and positive play for students. Skills learned in the Lamb Chop program will prepare them for the Karate Kubs class and future training in karate. While the class structure is repetitive, each class builds on the previous lesson enhancing the skills learned. During each class children will be taught self-defense skills along with stranger-danger scenarios to help them identify to what to do if lost or approached by a stranger. All children enrolled in this program will be given a Rising Sun Karate Club t-shirt. Parents are asked to bring the t-shirt and black pants to school on class day. Children will be expected to dress in their karate club uniform. As they advance they will be given color strips for their t-shirts to signify how far they have advanced. When a Lamb Chop turns 3 ½ they can then be tested to see if they are ready to advance to the Karate Kubs program.
Karate Kubs (3 1/2-5 year olds)
The Karate Kubs program is designed for older pre-school children to learn the basics of karate through fun exercises and principals of the sport. This is a belt program where children will earn colored belts as they advance through the curriculum. The children will be tested every four months to determine if they have learned enough to earn the next belt color. This program builds on the skills learned in the Lamb Chop program while learning more advanced katas and sparring techniques in a non-contact environment. They will continue to learn life skills including patience, focus, kindness, honesty and respect. Skills learned in the Karate Kubs program will prepare them for an advanced karate program and future training in karate. While the class structure is repetitive, each class builds on the previous lesson enhancing the skills learned. During each class children will be taught self-defense skills along with stranger-danger scenarios to help them identify to what to do if lost or approached by a stranger. As in the Lamb Chop program, each student will be issued a Rising Sun Karate Club t-shirt. Parents will need to send the t-shirt along with a black pair of pants on class day. After the child earns his or her first belt, the parents will be given the option to purchase a karate gi for the child to wear in class.
